Former Golf Course Become The Camp For Travelers

Travelers are not left with any option rather to set up a camp on a former golf course present in the Northfield – it happened just few days after the council denied planning permission for the 950 home development.

Nearly, 15 caravans have come into the former North Worcestershire Golf Club car park area; it is located at the junction of Frankley Beeches Road and Hanging Lane.

Last Thursday the planning committee of Birmingham City Council denied a planning application received from Bloor Homes. The application to develop 950 homes at the site.

Andy Cartwright, the councilor said “The site is still owned by the North Worcestershire Golf Club.

“Nearly 15 caravans have moved onto the site in the last few days.

“We hold the meeting with the site’s owners prior to this and we asked for assurance from him that the North Worcestershire Golf Club would be secured properly so that this thing doesn’t happen. (more…)

Extreme Makeover Of BGC Has Begun

These days, the greens aren’t living up to the name of the Blacksburg Municipal Golf Course (BMGC).

Following the closure of the course last month, the grass started turning brown at the nine-hole course, which was known as ‘The Hill’ in its days. It was the only restoration of the course in its history of close to 100-year, said Jeff Kepplin the General Manager.

Although, for the golf, the summer is the prime time and Kepplin said and there was a hurry to get the new seeds in the ground before the beginning of the fall with an objective to make the course being ready to play next spring.

“It is kind of makeover of the golf course to an extreme level,” he said.

In this regards the work has been scheduled and it includes re-grassing the fairways, surrounding and greens and also enhancing it including the alteration of some spots in the 14 bunkers of the course. (more…)

Poulter Misses Out WCG Event

Ian is one of the top international golfers in the world; he is set to compete in a number of tournaments this year such as the Puerto Rico Open.

He and Graeme McDowell would be part of this tournament as they have failed to have the desired scores and profile for WGC Match Play this year. Ian has a 199 ranking while Graeme is 82nd as per PGA ranks. Poulter was able to win the Match Play title in the year 2010 but has yet to make the right moves to move up further in the ranks. Poulter has had a top ten finish at Coco Beach in 2016. Poulter and McDowell are again back at Coco Beach though they would rather be part of other tournaments this time.

One person who has been accustomed to making history is Lexi Thompson and this week will see her make some more in the Franklin Templeton Shootout, as she becomes the second woman to ever participate in a Greg Norman’s PGA Tour-sanctioned tournament holding at Ritz-Carlton Golf Resort, at the Tiburon Gold Club.

When she was 10 years old, she had tried to qualify for the U.S. Women’s open at the Imperial Country Club. However, she didn’t go far as she ended up shooting a 77, which saw her dreams shattered at the local qualifier.

Two years later, she finally qualified at the age of 12 and also over the next two years in 2009 at 14 years of age. She also tied for a 27th to qualify for an LPGA event.

At the LPGA Tour’s season-ending CME Group Tour championship in Nov, Thompson didn’t play too well as she tied for the 40th, even though she went on to end the season as one of the only two Americans to win during the LPGA Tour. (more…)

Mike Clayton Backs Matt Millar

When it comes to US Masters News Mike Clayton is a name that needs no introduction.

He backed Matt Millar from Canberra and has helped him to be in form as he qualified for Japan Tour for the following year. Clayton stated that the member from Gold Creek had played his game with a smart and consistent manner. This was ideal for the narrow courses that are usually found in the land of the rising sun. Mike Clayton stated that the way Matt played the Masters in Melbourne was worth noticing and crediting him for.

Even though Matt has miles to go to improve his rankings, he definitely has a playing style that is commensurate with the style of the top players in the game. Furyk’s Shares Thoughts On US Open

Jim Furyk, the 46 year old golfer, has PGA Tour Championships far and wide between.

After winning the PGA Tour Championship at the end of the season in 2010, he has won just another tournament and that was in April 2015. The venue was South Carolina’s Harbor Town.

Furyk suffered a wrist injury in 2015 that needed a correction surgery. Jim was in rehab and rest for about three months and has now played in just a few events in 2016. He said that his putting is good and wants to improve his overall game very soon to be highly competitive.

Jim’s best performance so far this year has been at the Memorial in Ohio, where he reached the 17th place. This is the same place where he had won in 2002. Jim has a US Open win to his credit that he achieved in 2013 at the Olympic Fields in Chicago. He has also finished twice as runner up in the event.

Oakmont hosted the US Open in 2007 and this was when Jim Furyk came very close to winning the title and fell short by just one shot behind the eventual champion Angel Cabrera. He recalled all the events that unfolded on that day when he participated in the tournament this year. He recalled that he hit three drivers on the final day Sunday to get to the green in less than regulation. All the three attempts made bogey.
